simon j hunter profile

Simon J. Hunter focuses on what he excels at: bringing auditory sophistication to stunning visuals.

Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Simon relocated to Los Angeles after attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston, quickly becoming one of the most in-demand composers for film and television.

His work can often be heard in over 130 countries on hit dramas such as CSI and CSI NY as well as movie trailers for Iron Man, Hulk, and Wanted, among others. Kurt Vonnegut collaborated with Hunter in creating an other-worldy, musical interpretation of Slaughterhouse Five entitled "Tock Tick" featuring Mr. Vonnegut's vocals. In 2006 Hunter created "Simonic Boom", dedicated to providing tastemaker music and sound design to movie trailer producers.

Hunter's background both in Australia and the US has informed his distinct and sought-after sound. Simon has worked with artists Alanis Morrissette, Audioslave, Courtney Love, Phil Collins and Linda Perry, as the assisting recording engineer at Royaltone Studios.

He has studied piano with Mike Garson (David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins), orchestration with Scott Smalley, and film composing with Adam Fields (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). He has an insatiable thirst for new sounds and bands from all over the world which also informs his work.

Simon J. Hunter is expansive in his comprehensive awareness of music, and is equally comfortable behind turntables, a mixing board on a dub stage, or a drum set in his recording studio. While most would consider that a rarity in the business, Simon merely considers it to be the future.
